President's Profile
Bill Slenker is a fourth generation builder-developer
who has devoted his career to developing exceptional residential
and mixed-use developments. As a Trammel-Crow Residential Partner
for 10 years, Bill developed communities from 50 units to larger
master planned communities of 2,500 units in the Greater Washington,
D.C. - Baltimore market. In 1996, Bill created Slenker
Communities continuing his residential land development efforts. In addition,
he began developing Active Adult Communities throughout the Mid Atlantic
where multiple builders provide a variety of attached, detached,
and multi-family products.
The transition from developing traditional master planned golf communities to Active Adult Communities was quite natural, for Bill's firm had been promoting lifestyle communities for decades. The change came in the design of one-level housing products and amenities tailored specifically for the Active Adult, age 55-years or better. Since the mid 1990’s Bill’s in-depth understanding of this growing market segment has earned him national recognition. Bill often shares his expertise and experience at symposiums and in publications.
Bill takes tremendous pride in his team of dedicated professionals
who are behind the success of Slenker Communities.
Many employees have been working side by side with Bill for decades. Their
unwavering commitment and extensive experience enable Slenker
Communities to
develop truly exceptional communities. Given Bill’s background, it should not
be a surprise that he has built such a strong and high performing team.
A 1969 West Point Graduate, Bill served as an artillery officer and was an Airborne Ranger while in the U.S. Army. He also served on the faculty of the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs for four years. Bill currently serves on the Selection Committee for U.S. Service Academy candidates for Congressman Thomas Davis of Virginia's 11th District. He is on the Board of Directors of the Wesley Housing Development Corporation, a non-profit, church affiliated organization, which develops and manages affordable housing for low and moderate income persons as well as the disabled. He is also a member of the National Council on Senior Housing and the Urban Land Institute’s Senior Housing Council. |
